Can Indoor Plants Really Purify the Air?

Plants play a vital supporting role in the health and well-being of our environment and the world’s human population. Plants take the carbon dioxide in the air and replace it with humanity’s lifeblood – oxygen. And some plants are proven to remove harmful toxins such as formaldehyde and benzene from the air. Given the benefits of these plant qualities, some researchers, scientists and environmentalists believe that some plants may be viable air purifiers. However, others say that while they no doubt can remove harmful pollutants from the air, there simply is not enough evidence to support the notion that they can do the job in our homes and offices. Generally, this theory is based on the fact that the air in our homes and offices is constantly circulating and being switched out with incoming air, making an organic air scrubbing process hard to maintain.

INDOOR PLANTS

Some indoor plants such as pothos, peace lilies, philodendron and rubber plants can remove some toxins from the air. And most experts say that having plants in your home and office can help relieve stress and impact your mood and energy levels. So, by all means, do some research and find which indoor plants are best suited for you and your home.

INDOOR AIR QUALITY

Masters Heating & Cooling Inc. knows that indoor air quality (IAQ) issues are very important to our customers. Studies show that most people spend about 90 percent of their time indoors, with 70 percent of that time indoors at their homes. And, believe it or not, studies also show that indoor air quality can be as much as five times more polluted than the outdoor air. Poor IAQ can exacerbate respiratory issues such as allergies and asthma and breathing contaminated air can also contribute to other issues such as heart disease and cancer.

IAQ SOLUTIONS

Masters offers many solutions to help improve and maintain good IAQ in your home, including:

  • Air purifiers. Our top-of-the-line Carrier air purifier systems help eliminate mold, bacteria and other airborne pollutants.
  • Filtration. Standard air filters are OK, but our Honeywell filters come with advanced Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating for more protection.
  • Humidifiers/Dehumidifiers. Humidity that is too low or too high can impact IAQ as well as furniture and flooring etc. Our Aprilaire whole home products can help keep humidity levels constant.
  • Ultraviolet lighting. These systems take it to the next level by actively killing germs, mold and bacteria that are growing on your indoor evaporator coils and spreading through ductwork.

Call Masters today to schedule an indoor air quality analysis and to explore options for better IAQ. Or stop by one of the shops in Fort Wayne, Decatur, Angola, Indianapolis, Greenwood, or Mishawaka, IN. Remember, Masters gets there faster!
