A New Year’s Resolution Worth Keeping

2016 is in the record books and another New Year has begun. Many of us probably said goodbye to last year by making resolutions for 2017. The typical list of New Year’s resolutions usually begins with the old standby: I resolve to lose weight. Other popular resolutions include: exercise more often, eat healthy, make/save more money, don’t worry about things I can’t control and, of course, try not to watch so much sports on TV so I can spend more time with my significant other.

Worthy goals, one and all. This year, how about adding this resolution to the list: I resolve to make my home more efficient and safer? It’s a resolution that may be easier to keep than the others, while also helping improve your family’s quality of life.

Here is a checklist to help you get going:

  • Make sure smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are working and change batteries if it’s been a while. Don’t have low-level carbon monoxide alarms? Ask our technician to install them for you and then learn the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. You never know, the life you save may be your own or that of a loved one.
  • Indoor air quality (IAQ) is also crucial. Masters can ensure that your IAQ is at a healthy level by testing for indoor air pollution like mold, dust and other airborne allergens. This will also help determine if your system’s ductwork needs cleaning.

Masters can also help improve IAQ by installing air purification systems or whole house humidifiers. You will soon notice the difference in cleaner, healthier air.

OK, your home is safer, so let’s see about making your HVAC system more efficient. A great way to do that is to outfit your system with a new Wi-Fi enabled thermostat. Think of a programmable thermostat on steroids that empowers you to control your heating and cooling system with the ease and convenience of your mobile device.

For instance, what if you left home for two weeks during the holidays and turned the heat way down to save a few bucks. But you want the temperature a little higher when you return home. No problem. On your way home, simply use your smartphone to tell the wifi programmable thermostat to crank up the heat. Likewise, if you had to leave home in a hurry and forgot to lower the thermostat, you can take care of that as well via remote.

A wifi thermostat will also help give you peace of mind. If you’re out of town when the storm of the century hits, you can increase the temperature to help protect your home against the perils of brutal winter weather.

Your Masters technician can help you decide which programmable wifi thermostat is compatible with your system and will also show you how it can make heating and cooling your home more efficient, while saving you money in the long run.

And one final word of advice. If you’re going to try and keep that TV sports resolution, you might want to wait until AFTER the Super Bowl.

“The men were efficient, careful, and persistent on detail to make sure everything was correct.”
“Great experience getting the A/Cs installed.”

Geothermal energy is the smarter way to heat and cool your home or business – it's efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly. It's tough to get much greener than WaterFurnace. Just ask the EPA – they concluded geothermal energy is the most environmentally friendly heating and cooling system. Learn more
