ADVICE FROM YOUR AIR CONDITIONER THERAPIST

therapy

How are you and your home’s air conditioning system getting along lately? If you are like most folks, it’s probably a love/hate relationship. You love how cool and comfortable your air conditioner keeps your home, but you hate paying those utility bills.

Well, consider your friends at Masters Heating & Cooling your HVAC therapist. We understand how hot-and-cold the relationship with your air conditioner can, be and we are here to help answer your comments, questions and concerns. Here are a few comments we hear about quite frequently from our customers:

DO I REALLY NEED TO SPEND THE MONEY ON REGULAR A/C MAINTENANCE?

Let us be quite clear: YES! As a homeowner, this is one of the easiest and most important ways to take care of your air conditioner and keep it operating in peak, high-efficiency condition. All components of your air conditioner – especially the coils and blower – should be inspected and cleaned regularly. Air filters and ductwork should be inspected and/or cleaned regularly. Regular maintenance extends the lifespan of your air conditioner, and will help keep those utility bills you “love to hate” in check. Call us today for info on our Energy Savings Agreement. We schedule the regular maintenance so you don’t have to, and our service technicians are second to none!

WHY IS MY AIR CONDITIONER FREEZING UP?

There are many reasons why your air conditioner system may freeze up, including a dirty evaporator coil or defective blower motor (see above). Many times, though, system freezing is caused by low refrigerant. It may be that your system is simply low on refrigerant and is due for a charge … or your refrigerant lines may be leaking. Either way, this needs to be handled by a professionally-licensed technician who can check refrigerant levels, inspect for system leaks, and recharge your system.

HOW LONG WILL MY AIR CONDITIONER LAST?

On average, a properly operating air conditioner unit will last from 12-15 years. Of course, just how long your air conditioner lasts is dependent on a few factors, such as regular maintenance and make/model. But nothing lasts forever, and that’s why most experts usually recommend that if you are having persistent mechanical issues that require professional service—and your system is seven years old or older—it may be time to purchase a new system. So, keep an eye on your system. If it is constantly running, super noisy, frequently stopping/starting or simply failing to cool some areas of your house altogether, it is time to call the pros at Masters for a system inspection and no-obligation estimate for a replacement.

We hope we have answered a few questions, and we wish you and your air conditioner a long and happy relationship!
