Are Mini-Splits Good for Heating In Cold Climates?
Mini-split heat pumps are great as either the primary heat source or a heating supplement in your home. Ever improving mini-split technology has made it a competitive choice for homeowners nationwide, including the Angola, Fort Wayne, Decatur and Indianapolis, Indiana areas.
Mini-splits are relatively inexpensive to operate. They also do not require ductwork, which makes them a fantastic choice for home additions or remodels where installing ductwork is an impossibility. They are a versatile and economical home heating option, regardless of location.
Key Characteristics Of The Mini-Split Heat Pump
Like a traditional heat pump, a mini-split heat pump removes the cold air from inside and transfers it to the outside. Since the mini-split can also cool indoor air during the warmer months, the opposite occurs: warm air is transferred outside. The dual capability of the mini-split adds to its versatility.
Mini-split heat pumps are installed in individual rooms. This key feature allows indoor spaces to be heated or cooled to the occupants needs and only when the room is occupied. There is no wasted energy on rooms that are not being used.
There are both indoor and outdoor components to the configuration. The indoor unit consists of the air handler, evaporator coil and the blower. Outside, you’ll find the compressor/condensing unit. The “changed” pressurized air is transported via a small pipe, which runs through the wall to the indoor unit to either heat or cool the room. The outdoor unit can operate up to four indoor units and can be located up to 50 feet away from each one.
