Forced air furnaces
Reliable home heating should be viewed for what it is when you live in a northern climate: A life saving necessity. When the temperature drops outside, Masters Heating & Cooling is here to keep your Mishawaka, IN home warm and comfortable inside. It’s how we’ve been serving all of Northern Indiana for years. For most of us, home heating means a forced air furnace. While other forms of heat, radiant and geothermal for example have advantages, it’s hard to beat the relatively low upfront costs of forced air furnaces. Additionally, natural gas is generally the cheapest fuel.
The 1st decision
Efficiency is one of the primary factors to consider when it comes to the furnace in your home. Furnace efficiency is measured by the AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating. When a furnace has an AFUE of 75 it means 75% of the energy produced goes to heating the home and 25% is wasted, usually exhausted up the flue. Many older homes in Mishawaka, South Bend, and Elkhart still have furnaces with an AFUE of 50% to 70%. Today, an AFUE rating of 80% is considered a minimum and high-end models can be as much as 98% efficient. Those numbers clearly show replacing an old furnace can save a bunch of money on your monthly bills.
So, what’s the right number for me?
That’s a question only you can answer. Not surprisingly high-efficiency furnaces, 95% and above, are more expensive upfront. When we give you a no-obligation estimate our staff will show you the numbers so you can see how much money you can save each month on fuel costs. Then it’s up to you to decide if the extra efficiency is worth the investment.
